My husband and I just left after touring. We were expecting it to be interesting but Sarah the tour guide made it spectacular. She is very knowledgeable, personable and made the experience super cool!! Highly recommend. If we could give more stars we would. 😊 …

John Rankin and his family helped guide over 2000 slaves to freedom. The story of their amazing courage, resistance against the haters, and resilience, is told in great detail by the extremely knowledgeable tour guides. Everyone should know this history!

A fascinating introduction to the history of the Underground Railroad and Ripley, Ohio's part in it. Howard, the tour guide, is a great story teller and is alone worth the cost. Combined with a spec-TAC-ular view of the Ohio River, you've got a great visit waiting for you. Do beware of the drive leading up to the house. It's a one lane road with a couple of sharp turns. Otherwise... 👍

The views are breathtakingly beautiful. Even more awesome, it is enlightening history. The Rankin house was a key stop on the Underground Railroad. I arrived after hours and the home was closed but the grounds, the 100 steps to freedom, and the Underground Railroad trail was still accessible. I walked the steps and the trail. A humbling experience.

We had a fascinating visit to the home of one of the earliest conductors on the Underground Railroad! The docents are well versed and passionate about educating visitors about the work of John Rankin and his family as they helped escaped enslaved people make the journey to freedom.

While it may not appear like the Abolitionist Minister’s farm 150 years ago, it is nice to visit and see over the Ohio River into Kentucky. To imagine what it was like to see the candle burning in his window and know it was safe to cross over. History and the Underground Railroad.
